Refreshed

One day last week I visited Bloedel Reserve on nearby Bainbridge Island. I had a sinus infection hanging around and I'm sure that the walk along the cool green paths began my recovery. It was so refreshing.

Quiet Visitors

There's a family of deer in the neighborhood. I've yet to get a photo of the whole group. What a pleasure to catch a glimpse of brown through the window, and then watch them quietly poke around.

Invasion!

{Last installment of D-Day Ohio photos! The finale of the weekend was the reenactment of the beach invasion. The reenactors did a brilliant job.}

La Fiere Bridge Battle

{Another installment of photos from Conneaut, Ohio's D-Day Reenactment. Before the beach invasion, the reenactors staged two smaller Normandy battles that also occured on June 6, 1944. Here are snapshots of one of those, the La Fiere Bridge Battle, which involved the French Resistance, Allied Airborn, and Axis soldiers. I viewed the reenactment from the French Resistance position so you'll see that most of my photos feature them.}

  

Local kids got really carried away with the WW II action taking over their town for the weekend. Afterwards, down on the beach hunting for beach glass I got shot at! Some little boys hiding (not too well) behind a fence up above on the bluff were shooting I don't know what, maybe spitballs...I didn't mind until they hit me.

D-Day! Allied Camp

This was year 12 of  Conneaut, Ohio's D-Day reenactment.  Lake Erie's beaches become Omaha Beach and over 600 reenactors arrive with their uniforms, weapons, gear, and 1944 personas.  The whole event was really impressive and interesting in many ways. Here's a glimpse of the pre-invasion Allied Camp.
